MAC OS X

Introduction

On this page MSBTC provides tutorials and helpful links for Mac users interested in using their Mac computer on MSB systems where it is possible.

MSBTC technicians are not trained on Mac systems. MSBTC does not test Mac software against any MSB network systems and we do not guarantee the software and procedures below will always work.

Integrating Mac hardware and software will require each user to become familiar with, download, and install the necessary software. MSBTC can provide only limited assistance. To ensure MSB Mac user can run all required software we recommend users install MS Windows using BootCamp or a similar tool.

Tutorials

Wireless

To set up wirelss internet on your MAC while in the Hariri building, navigate your mouse to the top right hand corner of the screen and click the Wireless icon.

Click on "Join Other Network..."

Now, type in the Network name: "HOYAS"

Press join and you will be connected to the HOYAS network assuming it is in range. By leaving the "Remember this network" box checked you ensure that your Mac will connect to the HOYAS network every time it is in range.

GroupWise

There is a GroupWise client for Mac available for download here.

Drag the GroupWise.app application from the disk image into the applications folder.

Start the application and enter your information.

iPrint

Installing the iPrint client for Mac is extremely similar to the setup on a Windows machine. First navigate to http://print.msb.edu

In the top right hand corner click on "Install iPrint Client"

This will download the iPrint Client for MacOSX . Install the client and then quit (not close) all browsers

You will also need to install the print driver from the Xerox Website. For Snow Leopard, make sure you download the Rev 2.0 drivers and install them.

Return to http://print.msb.edu. You will now be ready to install the printer. Click on "MSB WorkCentre 7665".

iPrint will walk you through the installation. After the installation process you will be able to print to MSB WorkCentre 7665, which will appear in your printer list. Note: The popup window will most likely hide behing your current window, so you might need to move it.

Your jobs will appear on the walk-up printers after you swipe your Equitrac card.

Symantec AntiVirus

Symantec AntiVirus is the free anti virus client provided by the university. We recommend installing the Mac version on your machine.

You can download Symantec AntiVirus from HoyaComputing.
Use your NetID and UIS password to log in. Then choose the correct version of Symantec for your computer from the dropdown menu.

After selecting the software use the free download link on the top right of the page.

Now, mount the disk image and run the installer package.

Follow the on-screen instructions.

BootCamp

Installing Windows on a Mac is relatively simple to do. Apple provides very detailed instructions in their manaual. Follow the instructions closely as a failure to do so will corrupt the operating system.
