Useful Printing Information

At the Tech Center, we offer an array of printing and copying options, inlcuding high-speed color. For more information on all of our offerings, please contact our help desk and they can notify you whether or not we can meet your specific needs.

As a part of every student's semesterly lab fee, printing services are included at the Tech Center. Each student receives 1000 pages of printing per semester. Should a need for more printing arise, students can purchase another 100 pages for $5.

In order to conserve paper and reduce printing costs, the Tech Center has implemented a double-sided printing policy by default on printers in the lab. Should you need to alter this setting, please consult the helpdesk when you need to make an adjustment.

Network Printing with iPrint

NOTE: At the moment, iPrint only works with Windows XP. Novell has not yet published a working version for Windows Vista.

If you already know how to use this system please continue to the following link:

Currently, the Tech Center offers the ability to print on various printers around campus from any location where you have an internet connection, even while off-campus. The following tutorial shows you how to set up your iPrint client and the printers on the network. Permission to use certain printers vary between faculty, staff, and students depending on your access rights. iPrint printers will notify you during the installation process if you do not have the proper permissions to use certain printers. Keep in mind, as a student, printing through this system still deducts from your 1000 page printing allowance.

Setting up iPrint and Printers

There are two things you must do to be able to print to MSB printers off the internet:

  • Install the iPrint client
  • Install the appropriate iPrint enabled printer

The following instructions should get you on your way. Once you have installed an iPrint enabled printer you will be able to print from your computer using a network connection. Printing through iPrint is metered just as if you were logged on to one of the lab machines.

Note: This service requires a working internet/network connection.

  1. Click on the following link: iPrint. It will load in a new window.
  2. If you have not yet installed the iPrint client or if you have an older version of the iPrint client, click Install iPrint Client which can be found in the top right corner of the page that you just opened.
  3. After clicking the link, you will be prompted with the file download screen. Choose OK. This will install a file onto your computer.
  4. Open the downloaded file and choose the default settings during the installation process. If the installation is successful, it will ask you to restart the machine. REMEMBER! - Bookmark this page. After your computer reboots, return to this page to complete the setup.
  5. After the machine has restarted, return to iPrint. When the page loads you will be able to select printers within the MSB specified by a printer name and campus location. Just click on the printer name to install that printer. Be sure to take note of the printer name.
  6. iPrint printers require authentication. Use you MSB Username and Novell Password to authenticate. As a reminder, your Novell Password is used to log into the Novell Client. Check "Remember my password" if you don't want to have to login everytime you connect to the printer. You will see this screen from the iPrint client when installing a printer:

  7. To use the iPrint enabled printer, be sure to select it in the printing dialog box when you go to print. You do not have to return to the iPrint web pages to use an iPrint enabled printer. It works simply like you would be printing to a local printer.
