Software Support

At MSBTC, we exclusively support Windows Vista Business (or better) and Windows 7 Professional (or better) operating systems and the software we provide for it. MSBTC strongly recommends Windows 7 Professional. Windows XP (all versions) are no longer fully supported because it will not run MS Office 2010. While we may provide software support for Macs in certain cases, our expertise when troubleshooting is much more extensive for Windows-based systems.

Applications Software

MSB uses MS Office 2007 Professional but expect to move to MS Office 2010 32-bit version in August of 2010. All new purchases and upgrades should be Office 2010 32-bit. We do not yet recommend the 64-bit version of MS Office 2010 because it has multiple compatibility issues. MS Office Professional includes Excel, Word, Power Point, Access, and Outlook Mail. MSB uses all the MS Office programs except Outlook.

The right place for them to purchase it is here: http://elms20.e-academy.com/georgetown/.

Students can also find purchases for Microsoft Office through the following vendors:

  • Microsoft Web Site - Occasionally has good deals
  • Computerware --$179.
  • Main Campus through UIS Software Database (CDW-G) - $372.06
  • Bookstore -- $200+

Note: Prices are subject to change. Please check at the respective sources.

Configuring Your Computer

The MSBTC offers a variety of suggested software to help you use and protect your computer on our network:

  • Groupwise Email Client -

Groupwise is a corporate email client that only the business school uses for electronic communication. While not required, we reccomend this software for your computer for your convenience. If you prefer not to have the client, you can view your email through WebAccess, a web-based Groupwise client, or setup other clients (Gmail, Thunderbird, Outlook, etc.) to work with our system. Please see our Email section for further information.

    Downloading the Groupwise Client:

The program install software (gw801mult.exe) can be downloaded from the MSB S: Drive (S:/MSBTC Software/GroupWise/current_client). The S: Drive is accessible through NetStorage. https://storage1.msb.edu/NetStorage.

  • Symantec Anti-Virus - Please follow this link to our Security section for more information regarding anti-virus software.
  • Novell Client - This client enables you to connect to your network drives directly from your computer from any remote location. While you can use NetStorage to access your network folders using a web browser, logging into the Novell Client maps the folders directly to your directory so you can access and manipulate files more quickly and with added convenience.
  • iPrint - For more information on our iPrint client please visit our Printing section

At the beggining of each school year, we offer configuration sessions to add any software mentioned above that you may want on your computer. After these sessions, you can schedule an appointment to have configurations done.
