MSBTC Tele-Conferencing Services
MSBTC can support teleconferencing in several ways. There is no cost to students using these services for academic reasons.
Standard Multi-point Teleconferencing
MSBTC can set up a “Bridge” teleconference. Each user is required to have a standard phone or cell phone connection. Users will have a voice connection only. Conferences can be set up toll-free numbers for all domestic (US and Canada) numbers, and many (but not all) international numbers. MSBTC asks for 5 business days advance notice but can react to short-notice requirements. Five business days advance notice is required if the number of locations is over 10. Please provide the time, duration, and date required.
Phone Teleconferencing (Audio-only)
There are two basic audio-only teleconferencing options.
For those cases where participants are in several different locations away from the Hariri Building MSBTC will help you set up a teleconference “bridge”.
For those times when all participants are located in only two sites, with the MSB side participants in Hariri Building, MSB will assist you in conducting the teleconference from an IT breakout Room or other room with phone service.
Bridge Services
MSB can set up a phone number that you can distribute to other participants. All participants can then dial in from any location. There are no long-distance call charges if calling to/from the US or Canada. Frequently, but not always, MSB can set up a toll-free dial in connection from sites outside the US.
On-site Services
If you would like to place your call from the Hariri Building, you will need to book a room that has a phone line installed. All Technology Breakout Rooms and some regular team rooms have speakerphones. If you wish to conduct a large conference in a classroom you will need an amplified Polycom speakerphone. You can check out a Polycom conference phone from MSBTC, MBA Student Services, or EP Student Services Office.
It is always possible to dial in to an existing phone but if it is necessary to dial out to another location a long-distance code must be used when placing the call.
If the long-distance code or any other special service is required, then in addition to reserving the room it will be necessary to coordinate the conference call with MSBTC. MSBTC normally requires a minimum of 5 business days to support any AV request, including conference calls, but can respond to legitimate short-notice requirements.
To set up teleconference call special support: Submit a Help Desk ticket at least 5 business days in advance of your teleconference through the web at https://help.msb.edu , by e-mail at msb-help@msb.edu, or via phone at 202-687-4721.
- Include the time, date, number of parties that will be dialing in (and their country location), and duration of your conference
To book a team room (these are the only team rooms with activated phone lines):
To book a Polycom conference phone for rooms 342, 344, and 310:
Other Phone Calls
If you are not setting up a teleconference through the MSB (and are placing a long distance call from another phone), teams should purchase pre-paid international calling cards using their research funds.
Web Conferencing (Elluminate)
This is a “webinar” service. Each user is required to have a computer connected to the Internet and running internet Explorer or Firefox. It may work on other browsers also. Users will have voice, slides or desktop, and limited video capabilities using “Elluminate”. Some preparation is required consisting primarily of downloading a small java application on each participant’s computer. The service is available unscheduled for up to 3 participants through a link in BlackBoard. For more participants MSBTC will setup a session, and send you the URL on request. MSBTC asks for 5 business days advance notice for Elluminate but can react to short-notice requirements. Please provide the time, duration and date required. Number of participants is unlimited.
Video-Teleconferencing
Small Audience Video-Teleconferencing
MSBTC is in the process of setting up individual or small group video-teleconferencing service in Technology Breakout Room 176. Service is suitable for small groups (<8 persons) and individual interviews. Connections are point-to-point (no multiple participants) using either Internet or ISDN. Users must schedule Technology Breakout Room 176 through EMS (https://msb056.msb.edu/virtualems/). MSBTC asks for 5 business days advance notice but can react to short-notice requirements. Video-Teleconferencing requests have priority in this room if scheduled more than 10 business days in advance. Please provide the time, duration, and date required. Additionally a test session is normally required to ensure connection details are addressed.
Large Audience Video-Teleconferencing
MSBTC is in the process of setting up large group video-teleconferencing service in rooms 440 and 450. Service is suitable for classroom size groups. Connections are point-to-point (no multiple participants) using either Internet or ISDN connections. MSBTC asks for 10 business days advance notice and normally cannot react to short-notice requirements. Please provide the time, duration and date required. Users must make classroom reservation through the Deputy Dean’s Office. Additionally a test session is normally required to ensure connection details are addressed.
